Austen Brown, Boog, Solicitors On the 9th of April, 1888, John R. Edwards founded the solicitors' practice in Broken Hill that is today Austen Brown, Thompson. Edwards was a graduate of Sydney University and had previously lived in Forbes and Deniliquin before travelling to Broken Hill. He quickly established a reputation as a man committed to Broken Hill eager to join in a cause actively involved in movements to improve the town. This included being part of the group of citizens who lobbied the then Government to declare Broken Hill a Municipality which was achieved on the 22nd of September, 1888. Edwards was rewarded for his efforts by being appointed the newly formed Council's solicitor.
