About Carelink

Commonwealth Carelink Centres offer a new way for all Australians to access information about community and other aged care services, with a single phone call or visit to a Commonwealth Carelink Centre shopfront. The Centres act as a single point of contact, providing reliable information and guidance about community care services and aged care homes available in the local community.

The Centres will assist older Australians with their choice to remain living independently in their own home. Commonwealth Carelink Centres can provide information to older Australians, their families, carers, general practitioners, other health professionals or anyone else who needs this information.

Anyone may use a Commonwealth Carelink Centre to access information, either by visiting a shopfront personally, (Cnr of Gypsum and Wills Street, Broken Hill), or by telephoning FREECALL^TM 1800 052 222. Each Centre will maintain an extensive database allowing staff to provide up to date, accurate information about local services. Information available through the Centres includes: the range of services available in your community and how to contact them including:

• household help;
• personal care;
• home nursing;
• meal services;
• home modifications;
• respite care;
• day care centres;
• day therapy centres;
• special services for dementia;
• continence assistance;

and a range of allied health services; ACAT services whose assessment is required for access to Community Aged Care Packages or entry into an aged care home; who is eligible to receive services, and general information about costs associated with receiving services. By using a Commonwealth Carelink Centre, you can be put in touch with a wide variety of care services from somebody to help with household and garden chores to podiatry, personal care or meal services. All information will be free of charge and provided in confidence.
